With models rocking metallic makeup on lids, lips and cheeks to complement both ready-to-wear designer’s and couturier’s collections, it’s safe to state that the metallic trend is one of the biggest makeup trends this season. We are also pretty sure that makeup legend Pat McGrath had something to do with it, creating marvellous catwalk looks, later on to launch the metallic mixes for everyone to enjoy.
This look is even ideal for holiday season. Just think of all the x-mas parties and New Year’s Eve. Loving the look but haven’t quite figured out how to make it work in your favour? Sit back and study our best tips to wear the metallic makeup trend so you can be the highlight at any upcoming party.
Find the Right Shade
You know every time you shop for foundation and have to find the perfect shade so you don’t end up looking like a corpse or even worse; an oompa loompa? It’s just as important finding the right eyeshadow, blush or lipstick nuance. You’ve got to have the exact shade in order to enhance your looks.
Dark charcoal and bronze metallics will complement lighter skin tones and light silver and gold is best for medium and darker skin. If you work these shades the other way around, there’s a high risk that your skin is left looking washed out and unattractively pale. Try Milk Makeup Eye Pigment in Charcoal if you have a lighter complexion and Yves Saint Laurent Full Metal Shadow in Dewy Gold if you have tanned, olive or darker skin.
Tip: Before applying your choice of metallic shade, remember to use a solid eyeshadow primer for ultimate hold and a more pigmented result. Smashbox 24 Hour Photo Finish Shadow Primer keeps both those promises.
Be careful not to overdo the trend when you work it on your cheeks. A glowing or subtle sheen will do just fine. Flatter your medium or dark skin tone with rose gold or copper using Hourglass Ambient Strobe Lighting Blush Palette in Radiant Finish and apply it with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit Brush. Start from your temples moving down in a C shape towards the top of your cheek bones. For lighter skin tones, try Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit in Moon Child to get that celestial finish and gorgeous shimmer.
To become totally in sync with the metallic makeup look, you should avoid using the trend on eyelids and lips at the same time. Instead, you need to create a balance by simply combining a strong metallic eye makeup with a soft, neutral pout or the other way around: wearing neutral coloured eyeshadow with full metallic lips. Check out Kylie Cosmetics Metal Glosses where you can find the dark, majestic Reign, golden bronze King K and soft, pale nude Heir. All metals suitable for any skin tone.
