Now that autumn is upon us, we can unpack our scarves and start bundling up, but just because your skin is not directly exposed anymore does not mean you can get lazy with your skin care habits. A different season means a different skin care routine. Here are 3 helpful tips to maintain your perfect skin through fall:
With colder temperatures, your skin is more likely to become dry and flaky. Therefore, a heavier moisturizer is the key to keeping that silky smooth skin. The most effective time to apply your moisturizer is right after you shower or bathe, because it is the time when your pores are open and ready to lock in the moisture you are providing it with. Also, remember to moisturize regularly.
Exfoliation will help remove dead skin that has been damaged by the summer heat and allow your moisturizer to penetrate your skin better. After exfoliating you reveal the layer of skin that is ready to absorb that heavier moisturizer. In addition, the cold temperatures can cause poor blood circulation, which can be stimulated through exfoliation. To make sure that your exfoliator does not strip away too much of your natural oils and exacerbate the likelihood of dry and flaky skin, try using an oil-based exfoliator for a more nourishing scrub.
Just because the weather is cooler does not mean that your skin is no longer vulnerable to sun damage. It is still important to continue using sunscreen. You can switch to a lower SPF sunscreen, however, putting it on is definitely a step that should not be skipped in your daily skin care routine. Also keep in mind that sunscreen not only protects your skin from the sun, but it also protects your skin from damage caused by lights.
